Historic forest paths into Rønne town
After a swim at the beautiful beach in front of the hotel, you can continue along the forest path towards the center of Rønne, which is the capital of Bornholm. When the forest path stops, you will be greeted by Kastellet, which in the 17th century was part of the defense of Rønne. At Kastellet is also the exciting defense museum, where you will experience Bornholm during World War II. While the rest of Denmark celebrated the liberation, the German commander of the island refused to surrender Bornholm - and Bornholm became "real" Danish again in 1946.

Church, theater and cozy town square
After the dramatic, but exciting experiences at the Defense Museum, you continue down towards Rønne Harbour, where you will find that Bornholm is the center for the development of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. It is an impressive sight when the almost 300 meter long turbine wings were loaded on the transport ships on their way to their location in the sea off Bornholm. From the port you turn towards the center. Soon, the impressive Sct. Nicolai Church throne up in front of you. If you walk a little further, you pass Rønne Theater, which is Denmark's oldest theater building. Continue to Rønne Square, which offers a wealth of exciting shops and cozy cafes. Sit down at a cafe and enjoy the cozy market life.

The old part of town
Right by the square and the center is the old town with its crooked streets and charming little houses. Here are also large grocery farms from the 19th century, which testify to a time when Rønne was home to many wealthy shipowners. For example, a visit to the museum Erichsens Gaard is a fun experience that shows how the better bourgeoisie lived in the 19th century. Some of Denmark's most famous painters, Holger Drachmann and Kristian Zahrtmann, had their daily walk in the house. In the beautiful garden, the old flower species from the 19th century are still in bloom. Also try to visit Hjorths Fabrik, which is a living museum where you experience Bornholm's proud ceramic tradition.

Visit Bornholms Museum
In Rønne you will also find a number of the island's museums. At Bornholms Museum you can experience Bornholm's history through 10,000 years. Due to its location, far from the rest of Denmark, Bornholm has had its very own development. Bornholm is centrally located on the sea routes to the Baltic countries, and thus Bornholm was an important trading center in the "old days". The trade created life and great riches on Bornholm, but the riches also attracted less wanted guests in form of pirates. Back then, safes were not invented, so valuables such as jewelry and gold were often dug into the ground. Over time, the owner sometimes forgot the hiding place, and this means that Bornholm is today the place in Denmark where there are the most buried treasures. At Bornholms Museum you can see some of the thousands of gold nuggets - small figures in gold - which have been found on Bornholm.

If you feel like a high pulse, the mountain bike trail "Den Grønne Ring", which can be translated to “The Green Ring”, starts just 500 meters from Hotel GSH.
