When you choose Griffen Spahotel, you live in a perfect location to go experience Rønne - and if you want to look at the other beautiful parts of Bornholm, then it is easy to get from Griffen and out on the coastal road, where the roads to the rest of Bornholm start.

The old parts in Rønne
A few hundred steps from Griffen Spahotel starts the small, crooked streets of Rønne. Here you will find the most beautiful half-timbered houses and large grocery farms, which testify to a time when Rønne was home to many wealthy shipowners. You will also pass Erichsens Gaard, which is a living museum, where time has stood still since the 1860s, where some of Denmark's most famous painters, Kristian Zahrtmann and Holger Drachmann had their daily walk in the house.

Shopping and wonderful atmosphere on Torvet

From Erichsens Gaard you may continue along the crooked streets and up to the square. Make a good bargain in the many fun shops, or enjoy the cozy atmosphere at the cafes. From the square you can continue exploring in Rønne, which is Bornholm's capital. In the old part of Rønne you will also find Rønne Theater, which dates from 1789 and thus Denmark's oldest theater building. During the year there are many funny and interesting performances. If you are into other cultural experiences, Rønne's "Musikhuzet" offers concerts or stand-up shows with Danish top names almost every weekend.

Visit Bornholms’ Museum
In Rønne you will also find a number of the island's museums. At Bornholms Museum you can experience Bornholm's history through 10,000 years. Due to its location, far from the rest of Denmark, Bornholm has had its very own development. Bornholm is centrally located on the sea routes to the Baltic countries and thus Bornholm was an important trading center in the "old days". The trade created life and great riches to Bornholm, but the prosperity also attracted less wanted guests in form of pirates. To secure his possessions, great riches were therefore dug down. Over time, they were forgotten - and therefore Bornholm is the place in Denmark where most silver and gold treasures have been found. For example, the thousands of "gold men" who are small pieces of gold designed as warriors, horses or humans. Visit Bornholms Museum and hear the exciting story of greatness, unrest and treasures.

Ceramics - Old in the modern way
At Hjorths Keramikfabrik you can experience Bornholm's famous ceramic tradition. For over 150 years, the working workshop has managed to stay modern and still retain its classic character. A visit to Hjorths Keramikfabrik is exciting, and we must warn you -  it can be difficult to keep the paying card in your pocket, because there are many beautiful vases, bowls and mugs. There are several ceramic experiences at Marie Mølgaard Ceramics, which, among other things, makes Bornholm famous for ceramics.

Offshore wind and energy island
From Marie Mølgaard Ceramics you might walk on to the harbour, where you can experience Bornholm's new role as the center for the development of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. It is an impressive sight, when the almost 300 meter long turbine wings are loaded to be sailed out to the wind farms in the sea between Germany and Bornholm. Bornholm is also preparing for the creation of the world's first energy island, which will be an artificial island in the sea off Bornholm, where electricity will be produced to  large parts of Denmark and northern Germany. This is one of  many reasons why Bornholm is also called "Bright Green Island". From the harbour you may turn up towards the Defense Museum, which among other things tells about Bornholm's exciting history during World War II. - But if you need more relaxation and spa experiences, then you may walk along the harbour promenade back to the Griffen Spahotel. On the way back you can stick your toes in the warm sand on Nørrekaas Strand. Sit down on the bathing jetty and enjoy the holiday smile on your lips.

Borrow a free bike
At Griffen Spahotel you can borrow good bicycles for free and explore Rønne's local area. Bornholm's extensive network of cycle paths starts just 200 meters from the hotel. For example, try taking the beautiful walk along the old railway track to the round church in Nyker. Some theorists believe that the round churches on Bornholm were built by the secret order of the Knights Templar, which should have been in possession of some of history's greatest treasures - ex the Holy Grail. The round church in Østerlars therefore also appeared in the Danish Film “Tempelriddernes Skat” Even if you do not find the treasure, the round church is still a great experience.
